This is a super chilled out proggy set, gets a little upbeat at times, but for the most part I would describe it as chilled house, haha, put that on ice! A little background on this mix, it was originally done for a test mix for www.thisweekatbeatport.com (by the way, check out the fine talent on that site) I submitted it on the weekend of June 30th for the last week of beatport submissions in the 6-25 to 6-30 week. So, this was a tough mix for me, only being my 2nd mix to do completly on the computer, and with a very tough time frame for turnaround, coupled with the fact of trying to impress a multitude of DJ's and people behind the scenes to prove to them I can turn around a quality mix in 48 hours. So on Sat morning I woke up and spent roughly 6 hours sorting through tracks in the Progressive House section of Beatport. I estimate roughly 12-14 hours of production time in this, as every little thing I changed I would listen to it on my computer, then burn it to CD, then get in the car and go for an hour long drive to make sure it sounded proper in dual environments. After I was satisfied with the mix I submitted it for review.
As for the sound of the mix, I can recall a story of back in the Emerald Forest days, when I was still pretty fresh into the edm scene. I was sitting in the middle of the woods, lasers bouncing everywhere above me, CL Mcspadden was on the decks and I was laying back in my lawn chair with my eyes closed, I remember feeling each beat, each synth, each hat pulses through me and I thought to myself, man, if I could make people feel like im feeling now, that would be super cool. Which started me on my journey into DJ'ing. With this mix, I take it back to the old school progressive house feel, the mid to late 90's when stuff was simple, laid back and just had that feeling of weightlessness. Although having been built in modern day programs, the feelings of the grooves transcend into perfect harmony with the old school days of progressive. So sit back, prepare to relax yet feel groovy, hit play and enjoy!
